Description
Douglas Fir fencing elements battens are made from high quality slow grown Douglas Fir tree, which is known for its high density and stability. The wood has a beautiful reddish-brown colour with prominent grain patterns, adding a natural and aesthetic appeal to the fencing.
- Appearance: Douglas Fir has a reddish-brown to yellow-brown heartwood with a pale yellow sapwood. It has a straight grain pattern with occasional knots. The texture is medium to coarse, and the wood has a natural lustre.
- Density: The density of Douglas Fir varies depending on the specific variety and growing conditions. On average, it has a density of about 480 kg/m³ (30 lb/ft³), which makes it a moderately heavy and dense softwood.
- Workability: Douglas Fir is relatively easy to work with hand and machine tools. It has good machining properties, allowing for smooth cutting and shaping. The wood also holds nails and screws well and glues satisfactorily.
- Moisture Movement: Douglas Fir has a moderate-to-high level of dimensional stability, meaning it is less prone to warping, twisting, and shrinking compared to some other softwoods. However, like all wood, it will expand and contract with changes in moisture content.
