Description
Douglas Fir Tongue and Groove Cladding Boards refers to the use of Douglas Fir timber as an exterior covering or finishing material for buildings. Douglas Fir is a popular choice for cladding due to its natural beauty, durability, and structural strength. Douglas fir is very well suited for cladding as it is very strong and versatile it will not mark and dent easily compared to other softwood species. It has a high resin content so will be able to withstand many years of harsh weather. When freshly cut it bears a pink colour that changes to a Reddish brown and as is the case with almost all timber it will slowly change to a silver grey colour when exposed to the weather.
Douglas Fir has a reddish-brown to yellow-brown heartwood with a pale yellow sapwood. It has a straight grain pattern with occasional knots. The texture is medium to coarse, and the wood has a natural lustre.
Density: The density of Douglas Fir varies depending on the specific variety and growing conditions. On average, it has a density of about 480 kg/m³ (30 lb/ft³), which makes it a moderately heavy and dense softwood.
